Objective: To investigate the effect of parenteral n utrition(PN)support in patients with mechanical ventilation during weaning. Methods:T he PN support t reatment was performed in 268 cases of respiratory failure during weaning
while comparing with 124 cases of mechanical ventilation patients without PN support. Results: Compared with the control group
there were significant improvement in nutrition and decrease in negative nitrogen balance after PN suppo rt treatment.(P <0.05). Respiratory dynamics for weaning were improved significantly and parame ter of ventilator for patients decreased(P<0.05).The average ti me spending on turning off their ventilators was significantly shorter than that of control grou p(P<0.05).Conclusion:The PN support is helpful in enhancing the qualit y and function of respiratoy muscle. It is sure beneficial to an early weaning.
