calcium and sodium concentrations were investigated in mouse with viralmyocarditis. The results indicated that the activities of Na+
K+-ATPase and Ca2+-ATPase reduced significantly(P<0.01)
while the concentations of calcium and sodium as well as water increased apparently compared tocontrols (P<0.01) in mouse myocardium infected with CVB3 on the day 3
14 and 30
respectively. These changeswere observed prior to histologic changes. This study suggests that the inhibition of ATPase activities
and Ca2+overload in myocardium after CVB3 infection may be an important cause of secondary myocardium damage andcardiac insufficency.
