Objective:To explore the relationship between the dimensions of sensory integration disorder(SID)and the academic records of school-age children in rural areas
and to provide a basis for improving students’ academic records through treating SID.Methods:A total of 867 children in rural areas of Sichuan Province
China were selected by stratified cluster sampling.SID test results and academic scores were collected. The statistical software SPSS 20.0 was used to perform the chi-square test and logistic regression analysis. Results:Vestibular dysfunction
proprioceptive dysfunction
and learning disability were associated with Chinese and mathematics scores. The three issues were risk factors for poor scores:the odds ratio(OR)values for Chinese score were 2.252(P <0.001)
1.696(P = 0.012)
and 2.375(P < 0.001)
respectively; the OR values for mathematics score were 2.423(P < 0.001)
1.772(P = 0.004)
and 2.776(P < 0.001)
respectively. Conclusion:The academic records of school-age children in rural areas are related to learning disability
vestibular dysfunction
and proprioceptive dysfunction.Sensory integration training may improve their academic performance.
