Objective To explore the relationship between self-esteem and mental health of junior middle school students.Method 209 junior middle school students were investigated with Self-esteem Questionnaire and Middle School Student Health Questionnaire.Results The first-year students score（30.77±4.95）

of which 88.0% have high scores and 12.0% have low scores.Their mental health scores lower than 2;the dimension of compulsion scores higher than 2;the higher self-esteem group has a more lower score than lower group on the dimension of compulsion

paranoid

hostility and so on.The difference is statistically significant（P<0.05 or P<0.01）.There is no statistically significant difference on malajustment and psychological dissonance between the two groups（P>0.05）.Conclusion The self-esteem and mental health of junior middle school students are at a medium level.and there is correlation between self-esteem and mental health.
