Liver cirrhosis and its complications seriously threaten human health,so it is urgent to clarify its pathogenesis and find effective treatments for related diseases. Increasingly, studies have found that the intestinal microbiota can promote the occurrence and progression of cirrhosis and its complications through various mechanisms, such as disrupting the integrity of the intestinal mucosa, pro⁃ moting the expression of inflammatory factors, and causing intestinal flora translocation. Therefore, targeted intestinal microecology may become a new way to treat cirrhosis and its complications in the future. This review analyzed the role and possible mechanisms of gut mi⁃ crobiota in the occurrence and treatment of liver cirrhosis by consulting relevant literature, and provides insights into the current status and future directions of research on the pathogenesis and treatment of liver cirrhosis.
