Extracorporeal Carbon dioxide removal (ECCO2R) is designed to remove carbon dioxide from the blood to alleviate the adverse effects of hypercapnia and related acidosis. It provides conditions for protective or even super-protective mechanical ventila⁃ tion
helping to reduce the use of invasive ventilators and shorten the duration of mechanical ventilation. In recent years
the technique has played an important role in acute respiratory distress syndrome(ARDS)
acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD)
COVID-19 and patients waiting for lung transplantation. This article reviews the progress of clinical application of ECCO2R at home and abroad in recent years
and provide reference for its further clinical application and promotion.
