Influenza is an acute respiratory infectious disease caused by influenza virus. With the characteristics of strong conta-gion，high morbidity，wide spread，and high mortality，it usually causes outbreaks and epidemics，seriously affecting people’s lives. The current clinical practice to treat influenza is mainly based on antiviral treatment and symptomatic treatment. Due to the variability and drug resistance of influenza viruses，specific drugs with good therapeutic effects and few side effects are lacking. The principle of syn-drome differentiation and treatment in traditional Chinese medicine（TCM）can well deal with the variability and resistance of influenza viruses. At the same time，various TCM approaches for influenza provide more choices for patients. As the clinical application of TCM in influenza has become more widespread，TCM has gradually shown the advantages of safety，effectiveness，and cheapness. This review fo-cuses on the understanding，syndrome differentiation，and treatment of influenza from the perspective of TCM，and discusses the pros-pect of TCM in the treatment of influenza，in order to provide more approaches and ideas for clinical treatment of influenza.
