Objective To investigate the effects of the Chinese medicine ephedra on serum interferon-γ (IFN-γ)and interleukin-17(IL-17)in mice with psoriasis vulgaris. Methods A mouse model of psoriasis was es⁃tablished using imiquimod. Mice were randomly divided into 4 groups: normal control group, model group, methotrex⁃ate group(1 mg/kg),and ephedra group(29.25 mg/kg). Drugs were given for continuous 6 days, and meanwhile, the mice were observed for general condition. The Psoriasis Area and Severity Index(PASI)was used to assess skin lesion changes. HE staining was performed to observe and score the pathological changes of skin lesion tissues as well as evaluate inflammatory cell infiltration score. Serum IFN-γ and IL-17 levels were measured by en⁃zyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Results Compared with the control group, the model group had significantly in⁃creased PASI score,Baker score, and inflammatory cell infiltration score(P < 0.05). Compared with the model group, the ephedra group showed significantly decreased PASI score,Baker score, and inflammatory cell infiltration score(P<0.05)and significantly reduced serum levels of IFN-γ and IL-17(P<0.05). Conclusion Ephedra can significantly reduce serum IFN-γ and IL-17 levels and play a therapeutic role in mice with psoriasis vulgaris.
