Mechanoresponsive biomaterials in regenerative rehabilitation for bone injury[J]. Journal of Southwest Medical University, 2021,44(5):531-537. DOI: 10.3969/j.issn.2096-3351.2021.05.017.
While regenerative medicine and rehabilitation therapy alone cannot fully restore function after se⁃vere bone injury, regenerative rehabilitation can promote the restoration and functional reconstruction of bone tis⁃sue, achieving a better recovery of injured bone. Mechanical stimulation can stimulate the growth and differentiation of cells and promote the restoration of injured bone, and bone tissue engineering is the most promising technique for bone regeneration. Therefore, mechanoresponsive biomaterials may be the key to synergism between regenerative medicine and rehabilitation therapy. This article reviews the methods of regenerative medicine and rehabilitation therapy in bone injury restoration and their respective limitations in clinical transformation, summarizes previous re⁃search on mechanoresponsive biomaterials for bone injury restoration, and evaluates the effects of mechanical stimu⁃lation and mechanoresponsive biomaterials combined for bone regeneration. The use of mechanoresponsive biomate⁃rials combines regenerative medicine and rehabilitation therapy, creating a new direction for bone recovery.
