OBJECTIVE: To investigate the Chinese patent medicine prescriptions for digestive system disease in outpatient department in Beijing Shijitan Hospital Affiliated to Capital Medical University(hereinafter referred to as “the hospital”)
so as to provide reference for rational application of Chinese patent medicine. METHODS: Totally 6 000 Chinese patent medicine prescriptions for digestive system disease in outpatient department of the hospital in 2021(500 prescriptions per month) were randomly extracted from the hospital information system for comment and analysis. RESULTS: Of the 6 000 Chinese patent medicine prescriptions for digestive system disease in outpatient department
5 530 were rational and 470 were irrational prescriptions
with an irrational rate of 7.83%. Of the 470 irrational prescriptions
26 were non-standard prescriptions(5.53%)
420 were inappropriate prescriptions(89.36%) and 24 were abnormal prescriptions(5.11%)
mainly involving inappropriate indications
inappropriate drug combination and inappropriate usage and dosage. CONCLUSIONS: The application of Chinese patent medicine for digestive system diseases in this hospital is basically reasonable
but there are still some cases of irrational medication
so that the drug instructions of Chinese patent medicine should be improved and the rules of prescription pre-review should be optimized in order to promote clinical rational medication.
