BACKGROUND: Drug Selection Guideline for Medical Institutions is a standard guideline for drug selection in medical institutions. In the formulation process of this guideline

the research questions and drug selection index system were constructed based on Delphi method

the quantitative evaluation method of index grade were constructed by using evidence-based medicine method

and 37 recommendations were formed through expert consensus. OBJECTIVE: To assess the scientificity

clarity and feasibility of recommendations in the Drug Selection Guideline for Medical Institutions

so as to further revise the recommendations. METHODS: Through paper questionnaires

the degree of approval

clarity and feasibility of the recommendations from relevant professional experts in the drug selection were investigated

and subjective recommendations in other aspects were collected. The expert Group of the guideline discussed and revised recommendations based on the result of external review. RESULTS: A total of 18 experts participated into the external review of this guideline. For the 37 recommendations of the guideline

666 valid feedbacks were received

of which the overall level of approval for the recommendations was 97.15%（647/666）; the overall clarity of presentation was 96.55%（643/666）; the overall feasibility was 94.74%（631/666）. The degree of approval

clarity of presentation and feasibility rate of all recommendations were ≥80%. In addition

a total of 55 subjective recommendations were received. According to the results of the external review

the expert group of the guideline revised 3 recommendations

appropriately supplemented the description of the recommendations

and did not delete the recommendations

and finally formed 37 recommendations. CONCLUSIONS: The external review ensures the scientificity

clarity and feasibility of recommendations in the Drug Selection Guideline for Medical Institutions

and provides a basis for the formation of the recommendations.
