NA Yifan, TAN Ling. Rational Application of Folic Acid in the Treatment of Diseases Related to Hyperhomocysteinemia[J]. 2021,21(4):508-512. DOI: 10.14009/j.issn.1672-2124.2021.04.030.
Homocysteine is an intermediate metabolite in the metabolic pathway of methionine. Over the years
researches have proved that hyperhomocysteinemia is related to the occurrence of diseases such as hypertension
stroke
depression
Alzheimer’s disease
diabetic peripheral neuropathy and chronic kidney disease. Although folic acid can effectively reduce the level of homocysteine in the body
it may have off-label indications
overdose and other irrational phenomena in the treatment of diseases related to hyperhomocysteine. It is suggested that standard dosage and individualized administration of folic acid should be adopted in clinical application.
