OBJECTIVE: To probe into the intervention effects of irrational application of proton pump inhibitors（ PPI） in inpatients by clinical pharmacists. METHODS: Cross-sectional study was adopted

according to hospital information management system

investigation was conducted on inpatients with PPI in the Third People’s Hospital of Hechi before intervention（ Jul. 15 th

Aug. 15 th and Sept. 15 th

2016） and after intervention（ Jul. 15 th

Aug. 15 th and Sept. 15 th

2017）. The drug instructions and the Expert Recommendations for the Prevention and Treatment of Stress Ulcers were used as guidelines to formulate medication standards

and the use of PPI before and after intervention was analyzed according to the standards

the effects of the intervention were evaluated. RESULTS: Before intervention

a total of 1 693 patients were enrolled

the PPI utilization rate was 27. 05%（ 458 cases）

and the rational rate was52. 40%（ 240/458）. After intervention

a total of 2 095 patients were enrolled

the PPI utilization rate was 8. 54%（ 179 cases）

and the rational rate was 68. 16%（ 122/179）. Before and after intervention

there was no significant difference in the distribution of gender and age of the inpatients（ P > 0. 05）. After intervention

the PPI utilization rate of inpatients was significantly lower than that before intervention

and the rational rate of medication was significantly higher than that before intervention

with statistically significant differences（ P < 0. 05）. CONCLUSIONS: In accordance with the PPI medication standards

clinical pharmacists strictly implement the intervention measures such as the special prescription review system

which can significantly improve the level of rational use of PPI in clinic.
