OBJECTIVE: To probe into the regularity of neurological adverse drug reactions induced by ertapenem
so as to provide reference for safe drug use in clinic. METHODS: Totally 6 cases of adverse drug reaction on nervous system induced by ertapenem in Peking University People’s Hospital in 2017 were summarized
analyzed and reevaluated. RESULTS: Of the 6 patients
4 were male( 66. 67%) and 2 were female( 33. 33%)
the male to female ratio was 2 ∶ 1. The age ranged from 55 to 92 years
with an average of( 79. 83 ± 13. 26) years. There were4 patients with renal insufficiency( 66. 67%). Six patients had neurological adverse drug reactions after application of urtapenem of 2 to 5 d
all of which were manifested as mental disorders
mainly including symptoms of excitement
multilingualism
insomnia
apathy
lethargy
delirium and hallucinations. After the drug was withdrew
the symptoms were alleviated and disappeared. CONCLUSIONS: For elderly patients with renal insufficiency
special attention should be paid to the dose adjustment of ertapenem and related adverse drug reactions
so as to effectively reduce the risks to patients.
