Objective: To explore the clinical characteristics
treatment and prognosis of neonatal influenza A. Methods: Clinical data of 25 hospitalized neonates diagnosed with influenza A in Neonatology Department of Hunan Children’s Hospital from January 2018 to January 2020 were analyzed retrospectively. The clinical characteristics
auxiliary examinations
treatment process and outcomes of the neonates were analyzed. Results: Among the 25 cases
17 were male and 8 were female. There were 16 full-term infants and 9 premature infants
among which 7 were late premature infants. Eighteen cases occurred in winter and spring
and 7 cases occurred in summer. Twelve cases had close contact with family members with symptoms of “cold” before ill. Clinical manifestations included cough in 17 cases
fever in 17 cases
dyspnea in 10 cases
nasal congestion in 12 cases
runny nose in 3 cases
and apnea in 1 case. All the 25 cases tested positive for influenza A virus antigen
6 cases tested positive for respiratory syncytial virus at the same time
and sputum bacteria culture was positive in 17 cases. Sixteen cases were treated with oseltamivir and 2 cases with peramivir. Twenty-four cases were cured and discharged
and 1 case died (a premature infant). Conclusion: The symptoms of influenza A infection in neonates are not typical
the incidence is usually high in winter and summer
and the prognosis is generally good
but the premature infants should be alert to serious complications and poor prognosis.
