Objective: To observe postoperative brain edema in patients undergoing craniotomy for intracranial space-occupying lesion by continuous monitoring with BORN-BE non-invasive dynamic brain edema monitor and evaluate the clinical value of the instrument
so as to provide the guidance for clinical treatment. Methods: Brain edema in 30 patients with supratentorial space-occupying lesions was deteced with BOEN-BE non-invasive brain edema monitor by observing the changes of cerebral electrical impendance perturbation coefficient values of bilateral hemispheres at preoperative 1d and postoperative 1~10 ds.Bilateral hemisphere cerebral electrical impedance perturbation coefficients values were detected with the same monitor in 30 subjects without brain disease as control group. Results: In 30 patients
the cerebral electrical impedance perturbation coefficients values in the operated sides at days 2~9 after operation were significantly higher
to varying degrees
than those in the healthy sides and healthy control group
especially at postoperative 5~6 ds(P<0.05).The difference between the two sides was less than 0.3 at preoperative 1d
postoperative 1 d
10 ds.The values were not significantly different between the patients and healthy control group(P>0.05).Conclusion: The non-invasive dynamic brain edema monitor is sensitive and objective to reflect the changes of cerebral edema in patients undergoing craniotomy
which can provide the refrence for evaluating and treating cerebral edema
especially for patients undergoing supratentorial craniotomy.
