Objective:To explore the expression of secreted protein acidic and rich in cysteine(SPARC) and its relationship with invasion
metastasis and prognosis in cervical squamous cell carcinoma. Methods:The expression of SPARC
microvascular density(MVD) labeled by CD34 in 18 cases of normal cervical epithelium(NCE)
41 cases of cervical intraepithelial neoplasm(CIN) and 72 cases of squamous carcinoma of cervix(SCC) were detected by immunohistochemistry SP method. Results:The positive expression of SPARC protein increased remarkably from NCE to CIN and then to SCC accordingly(P=0.039).In CIN
the expression of SPARC was significantly positive in high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions compared to light-grade intraepithelial lesions. In SCC
the expression of SPARC correlated with FIGO staging
pelvic lymph node metastasis.stroma involvement and intravascular infiltration(P<0.05)
but not correlated with patients age and histological grading(P>0.05).The MVD increased remarkably from NCE to CIN and then to SCC accordingly(P<0.05).The expression of SPARC protein in CIN and SCC was correlated with MVD
respectivel. Conclusions:SPARC may play an important role during the cancer invasion and metastasis
and may be a valuable marker in prognosis in cervical squamous cell carcinoma.
