Objective:To report the experience of laparoscopic radical prostatectomy(LRP) in the treatment of prostate cancer and evaluate its clinical efficacy. Methods:From May 2006 to July 2010
LRP was done on 21 patients(with an average age of 66.7).All of the patients were diagnosed by pathology.Among the cases
transperitoneal approach was used in 7 patients
and extraperitoneal approach was employed in 14.Results:The operation was successfully performed in 20 cases. The mean time period of operation was 270 minutes. The mean blood loss was 390 ml.5 cases received transfusion intraoperatively.1 case received open surgery. The postoperative catheterization time was 14~22 d(mean
18.6 d).There was no injury to the rectum in all cases.Urine leak occurred in 4 cases
but recovered with conservative therapy;true incontinence occurred in 1 case.1 case(5.2%) had positive surgical margins. The patients were followed up for 2~39 months(mean 15.6 months) and no local recurrence or distant metastasis was found.Serum PSA was 0~0.12 μg/ml.No death occurred. Conclusion:With the advantages of good operating field
minimal invasion
less complications and rapid recovery
LRP is safe and effective for the treatment of prostate cancer.
