Objective: To study elastic intramedullary nailing per cutem after closed reduction in treatment of pediatric long bone fracture

and assess the curative effect.Methods: Retrospective analysis of 345 cases of pediatric limb long bone fracture treated with elastic intramedullary nailing in our hospital

from Oct.2005 to Oct.2009 was conducted.In this group there were 32 cases were humerus fracture;62 cases were ulna or radius fracture;156 cases were femur fracture and 95 cases were tibia fracture.The union of fractures and the condition of function were reviewed.Results: All the 345 cases have been followed up over 6 months to 4 years;the average was 2 years and 10 months.314 cases recovered excellently(the rate was 91%)

and 26 cases were fine.All of them were primary healing

and none of them had bone infection or bone non-union.Conclusion: Elastic intramedullary nail crossing fixation is a safe

convenient and rapid therapy for pediatric long bone fracture

especially for limb long bone fracture

so it is an effective therapeutic approach for limb long bone transaction fractures and multi-section and complex injury.Compared with traditional techniques such as epithesis

gypsum fixation or open reduction

this technique has many advantages

including small skin wound

tiny tissue damage

no damage to the epiphyseal plate

no influence on local blood circulation

fast recovery

short period in hospital

convenient pulling-out of the nails

good tolerance for children

and a good combination of orthopedic surgery and plastic surgery.So it is effective therapeutic approach for pediatric limb long bone fracture.
