Objective:To observe the influence of cell saver on red cell deformability during orthopedic operation.Methods:50 patients who underwent orthopedic operation randomized into two groups(autotransfusion group and control group).Red cell de- formability was measured at different time;hematocrit and extracellular potassium concentrations were measured before operation and instantly after operation. Results:Red cell deformability decreased and aggregation of red cell increased obviously before washing
then recovered rapidly after washing by cell saver. In comparison with pre-operation
hematocrit increased significantly and extracellular potassium concentrations decreased significantly instantly after operation. Conclusions:During orthopedic oper- ation
autotransfusion has no adverse effect on systemic circulation characteristics.
