Objective:To study expressions and correlations of p53 and bcl-2 in NSCLC and to discuss their significance in oncogenesis and progression of lung cancer and apoptosis.Methods:56 surgically resected NSCLC patients treated with radiotherapy ± chemotherapy were enrolled in the study group. The expressions of p53 and bcl-2 were tested by immunohistochemical SP method. The correlation of expressions and their relationship with apoptosis in NSCLC were analyzed. Results:Positive expressions of p53 and bcl-2 were 55.36%(31/56) and 53.57%(30/56) respectively. There was no significant difference between p53 and bcl-2(P>0.05).Significant correlations were not found between their expressions and clinical pathological characteristics(P>0.05).Conclusion:p53 and bcl-2 have relationship with oncogenesis and progression of NSCLC.p53 and bcl-2 have no significant correlation
which suggests that bcl-2 has control mechanism for apoptosis different from p53.
