Objective:To explore the possibility of perpendicular sticking caudal anesthesia for congenital clubfoot surgery in infants. Methods:Sixty patients undergoing congenital clubfoot operations were randomly divided two groups of caudal anesthesia(n=30) and epidural anesthesia(n=30) under basal anesthesia.8~10 mg·kg -1 lidocaine hydrochloride(0.8~1.25)% was administered on each patient. The changes in BP

the side reactions and the analgesia with anodyne were monitored after pentothal sodium induced asleep
hitting Kirschner wire
sectioning peau and suturing peau
etc. Then the effect and defect of two methods were compared. Results:Two cases of incomplete analgesia were observed in epidural anesthesia.Analgesia was consummate in caudal anesthesia.Comparing with pentothal sodium induced sleep in the same group after sectioning peau
hitting Kirschner wire and suturing peau
the function of respiration and circulation was stable in both groups and there was no significant difference(P>0.05).There were no serious side reactions such as total spinal anesthesia and local anesthetic intoxication. Conclusion:Combined basal anesthesia and perpendicular sticking caudal anesthesia is a feasible method for congenital clubfoot surgery in infants. It has the advantages of simplicity
