Objective: To investigate the inhibition of celecoxib on the hypersecretion of airway mucins in the chronic bronchitis rats. Methods: Rat chronic bronchitis model was established by intratracheal instillation of 0.1% lipopolysaccharide 200μl.With image analysis and ELISA
the changes of pathology and mucins in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid(BALF)were observed. Results: The rats shared many features of chronic bronchitis after instillation
including goblet cells hyperplasia
submucosal glands hyperplasia and hypertrophy
mucins overabundance of secretory cells and BALF.Celecoxib could remarkably decrease the number of goblet cells per 1mm epithelium
mucins area% and pre-secretion index of glands and epithelia
mucins in BALF. Conclusion: Through inhibiting specifically cyclooxygenase 2
celecoxib could decrease goblet cells hyperplasia
inhibit excessive mucin synthesis and secretion in goblet cells and mucus glands of chronic bronchitis rats.
