Objective: To determine the serum levels of bone alkaline phosphatase (B - ALP) by means of wheat - germ Iectin precipitation and explore correlation between B - ALP and bone mineral content. Methods: The animal model with calcium and vitamin D deficient rickets were established. Serum levels of calcium

total ALP and bone ALP in different growth phase were assayed. Results : Bone ALP activity was significantly increased in rickets group and this increase occurred earlier than that of the total ALP. There was a significant negative correlation between bone ALP and bone mineral content. Conclusion : Serum bone ALP activity is a sensitive and reliable index in measuring osteoblastic activity.
