Flumazenil(Flu) is one of the new antagonists of benzodizepines. We used Flu to antagonize midazolam (Mid) and assessed the awakening quality in post-anesthesia. The result was compared with that ofproPOfol(Pro). Thirty patients
scheduled for cholecystectomy were divided into 3 groups
each with 10 patients. The first group was induced with Mid. The second group was also induced with Mid and Flu was used at the end of anesthesia. The third group was induced with Pro. awakening quality was assessed when we stopped anesthesia. We found that the recovery times were longest in group l
and shorter in groups Ⅱ and ill (P<0.01).These were no significant diffeences between groups Ⅱ and Ⅲ (P>0.05) in recovery times of conscious ness level
psychomotor and cognitive test levels. These results suggested that when we used Flu to antagonize Mid
awakening quility was as good as that of pro
and there were no side effects of cardiac and circulatory depression.
