The Purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship bewteen HPV infection and penile neoplasm. Using general primer mediated polymerase chain reaction(PCR) assay
The HPV. DNA was detected in 52 penile squamous cell carcinomas. The HPV.DNA positive rate was 67%.HPV-16 was identified in 31 cases
HPV16/18 in 3 and HPV11/18 in 1. HPV.DNA was also detected in 3 of 4 cases of lymph node metastasis of penile carcionoma
and they beloned to the same type of HPV as the primary carcinoma. HPV-6 or 11 was found in 4 of 6 penile papillomas. As controls
HPV had not been detected in any of 20 nonneoplastic foreskins. These data indicate that HPV is strongly associated with penile neoplasm and may play an etiologic role in the development of these neoplasms.
