Antibody response against E2 glycoprotein in hepatitis C virus was studied in 37 patients with acute orchronic hepatitis C. E2 glycoprotein expressed in mammalian cells was used to detect specific antibody (anti-E2)in samples obtained by Western blot from patients with acute and chronic hepatitis C.These results showed thatanti-E2 could be detected in 59.5% of the patients including 3 of 10 acute patients and 19 of 27 chronic patients. It is suggested thatanti-E2 is an useful marker for determining HCV.
