Effect of treatment and prophylaxis of cefoxitin in surgery[J]. Journal of Chongqing Medical University, 1998,(4):408-410. DOI: 10.13406/j.cnki.cyxb.1998.04.020.
Eighty-four patients with surgical infections were treated with cefoxitin The total effective rate was 89.3%. To determine the best antibiotic regimen to employ in patients undergoing surgery
a randomized prospective study was designed comparing cefoxitin alone with a triple-drug of gentamycin or kanancycin
ampicillin and metronidazole or tinidazole.Eighty patients were divided into two groups. The prophylaxis was started preoperatively or postoperatively. In both groups wound infections was found to be less than 9.5 percent and no difference could be demonstrated in type Ⅰ operative incision. However cefoxitin was significantly superior to triple-drug in type Ⅱ operotive incision(P<0.05). Cefoxitin offers a single drug prophylaxis that adequately reduces postoperative infectious complications in patients undergoing surgery.
