Twenty three patients suffering from liver cirrhosis with intensive ascites were divided into two groups and treated by ultrafiltration and intravenous or intraperito-neal reinfusion respectively. The results in both groups revealed definite clinical amelioration

biochemical improvement in serum albumin level and endogenous crea-tinine clearance rate and urine sodium output as well as the plasma levels of RAAS-reduction during short-term observation. In certain cases the method of intraperi-toneal reinfusion revealed as an alternative when they were unsuitable to the treatment of intravenous reinfusion. It is suggested that the interference in sodium metabolism and RAAS might participate in the mechanism of the effects of ultrafiltration of ascites and reinfusion
