Experiments were performed in 22 conscious rabbits. Distcntion of the rectum could induce significant cnanges in the antral electric activity
mainly
inhibitory effects were found in the burst frequency
the spike units and the amplitude of the fast wave
and in the amplitude of the the slow wave. It was also observated that the rectum-gastric inhibitory reflex (RGIR) persisted both by section of bilaterl vagus nerves or transection of the L7 spinal cord
but it disappeared by bilateral splanchnic nerves section. The RGIR was abolished by lesion of the T7-T11 segmental spinal cord. Administration of P-antagonist-propranolol could markedly reduce the 114 RGIR. It suggested that RGIR might be related to adrenergic receptor. The results mentioned above seemed to indicate that the T7-T11 of the spinal cord may play an important role in RGIR. The peripheral afferent and efferent pathway of this reflex would pass through the adrenergic sympathetic nervous fibre
