Experiments were performed on 40 rabbits. The evoked potential was elicited by stimulation of the central end of the cervical vagus nerve with electrical pulses of various intensities. This vagus nerve was blocked by a polarizing current so as to excite different kinds of fibers (A
A or C) in it. The cortical potentials were evoked mainly by stimulating A and C fibers of vagus nerve. The cortical specific representation of vagal evoked potential (VEP) is relatively concentrated. The protective area 2-5mm lateral from sutura sagittalis and 2-5mm posterior to sutura coronalis. It corresponds the somatovisceral sensory area of the cerebral cortex.Electroacupuncture of "Naiguan" and "Waiguan" points
the VEP decreased in 1 out of 18 experiments
increased in 2
remained unchanged in 2. It was suggested that the modulation of visceral afferents by acupuncture is corrected with the various functional situations.
