Abstract
In this report
using anti-HBs reverse plaque forming cell assay
the ability of B cells to produce anti-HBs in vitro was measured on 43 cases of various type of viral hepatitis B infections and 20 cases of HBsAg vacnnees. A marked decrease of anti-HBs synthesis of B cells from the patients with HBV infections was observed in comparison with HBsAg vacci-nees
however
B cells from patients with fulminant hepatic failure showed strong ability to synthesis anti-HBs. A cross coculture experiment using T and B cells suggests that the low ability of B cells to produce anti-HBs in chronic HBsAg carriers be resulted from both their B cells defect and intense suppressor T cell activity. No correlation was observed between low IL-2 activity from lymphocytes and anti-HBs synthesis from B cells of HBV infections
