Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) from patients with tuberculous
viral and cryptococcus meningitis
as well.as from appropriate controls
were assayed for immunoglobulia G antibody activity to Mycobacterium bovis BCG and PPD by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The results showed that the antibody activity against BCG and PPD increased pa-rallelly in tuberculous meningitis and this increase was significantly different from the non-tuberculous meningitis and control groups. If the OD 0.16 was arbitrarily set as the ELISA positive standard
then the sensitivity is 83.3%
the specificity is 97.6%
the predictive value is 93.7%. It is suggested that this test may be useful in the early diagnosis of tuberculous meningitis
