Depression is one of most common non-motor symptoms in Parkinson’s disease(PD). Due to the overlap of somatic symptoms and other neuropsychiatric manifestations
assessing the depression of PD is still a challenge in clinical practice. It is of great importance to choose a valid and appropriate depression scale to detect it. Hamilton depression scale
Beck depression inventory
Montgomery-Asberg depression rating scale
geriatric depression scale
Cornell scale for depression in dementia can effectively evaluate different clinical types of depression in PD. Moreover
different clinical types of depression may need to choose different treatments. Among them
the cognitive behavioral therapy is effective
but easy to be ignored by the neurologist. With fewer side effects
oral antidepressant drugs are still the most commonly used
and depression in the "off"period can be improved by adjusting the dopaminergic drugs. The efficacy of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation and deep brain stimulation method still needs more controlled clinical study to be verified. Further improving the recognition to the depression of PD and developing more effective treatments
is crucial to help improve the patient’s quality of life.
