Objective:To investigate the prevalence as well as the risk factors of Helicobacter pylori(Hp)in a health examination cohort of 10 912 subjects from Chongqing. Methods:Totally 10 912 subjects from the medical examination center at the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University in 2014 were enrolled in this study.

C-urea breath test was used to identify the presence of Hp. Data regarding physical examinations and biochemical measurements were collected and logistic regression was performed to recognize the risk factors for Hp infection. Results:(1)The results of physical examinations and biochemical measurements indicated that older age
lower albumin levels and higher total cholesterol
LDL-cholesterol
and fasting blood sugar were significantly associated with Hp infection.(2)According to the age and gender
the subjects were divided into different groups. The results showed that there was no difference in infection rate of Hp between the two genders before 60 years old
while the infection rates of Hp were higher in male than in female after 60 years old. The total trend for infection represented an increasing trend.(3)Among the 10 912 subjects enrolled in this study
the infection rate of Hp was 34.37%(3 750/10 912)
33.75% and 35.05% for male and female(χ2=2.030
P=0.154).(4)Logistic regression analysis showed that age
albumin and fasting blood sugar were independent risk factors for Hp infection after adjusting for other co-variables. In addition
increasing age and hyperglycemia were risk factors for infection(OR
>
1
P
<
0.05)
while high albumin was protective factor for infection(OR
<
1
P
<
0.05). Conclusion:Hp is prevalent in Chongqing and the rate of infection increases along with the increase of age. Older age and hyperglycemia are significant risk factors and high albumin level(albumin≥48 g/L)is protective factor associated with Hp infection. Effective measures should be taken to prevent the prevalence and complications of Hp infection.
