Objective:To investigate the clinical features of extremely low birth weight infants(ELBWI)in our hospital for nearly twenty years;to analyze the risk factors of mortality and to evaluate long-term outcomes. Methods:Prenatal data of 87 ELBWI were collected from 117 newborn cases who admitted with weightless than 1 000 g and equal to 1 000 g in Children’s Hospital of Chongqing Medical University between July 1994 and December 2013. When connected we measure both growth and mental development. Results:Of 87 ELBWI
21.84% survived
6.90% died at hospital and 71.26% abandoned treatment. Average gestational age(t=2.4
P=0.031)were higher in better prognosis group than in poor prognosis group
while usage of mechanical ventilation was higher in poor prognosis group(χ2=15.155
P=0.000). Composition of complication in two groups was different. Telephone follow-up was conducted for 11 cases out of 19 cases
in-patient follow-up for 6 cases out of 11 cases. The oldest was 11.4 years and the youngest was 1.3 years. One case of growth restriction and two cases of development restriction were observed. Conclusion:With the improvement of survival rate of ELBW
focus should be paid to the longitudinal follow-up of growth and development.
