Objective:To observe the performance and prognosis of the amplitude-integrated EEG(a EEG)in evaluating the prognosis of children with disturbance of consciousness at pediatric intensive care unit(PICU). Methods:According to the inclusion criteria

this study contains 152 critical ill children who have the disturbance of consciousness from February 2015 to October 2015. The prognosis assessment was conducted by comparing a EEG

video EEG(v EEG)and Glasgow Coma Scale(GCS). All of them accepted the monitoring of a EEG and v EEG at least 2 hours. GSC were recorded before the monitoring or at the first 24 h in PICU. The outcome recorded at the end of clinical death or 3 months after leaving hospital. The receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve was used to analyze the sensitivity

accuracy

specificity. Results :The outcome of a EEG divided into three degrees :normal

mildly abnormal

severely abnormal. The rates of poor outcome were 4.2%

the prognosis assessment of a EEG was consistent with the actual outcome. Conclusion:a EEG is useful to evaluate the outcome of consciousness children in PICU. a EEG has no difference with v EEG and GCS

and it worth promotion in clinics because of the simplicity and objectiveness.
