Wang Wei, Wang Aiping. Maggot debridement therapy for diabetic foot ulcers[J]. Journal of Chongqing Medical University, 2017,42(3):253-256. DOI: 10.13406/j.cnki.cyxb.001068.
the prevalence of diabetes increased year by year. It has affected 382 millions people around the world and has become a hazard to human health. It is predicted that the population of diabetic patients will soar to 592 million by 2035
about 15% to 20% diabetic patients will suffer from foot ulcers in their lifetimes. Amputation caused by diabetic foot ulcers has become an important reason for the primary cause of non traumatic amputation and mortality. Debridement is very important for the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers
it could accelerate wound healing by removing necrotic tissues. Maggot debridement therapy was used for wound debridement hundreds years ago
and played the vital role in anti-infection and promotion of wound healing during debridement;but the specific mechanisms are still unclear.
