Objective:To investigate the profiles of serum conjugated bile acids in mothers and fetuses for stratifying the degrees of intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy(ICP). Methods:High-performance liquid chromatography with ultraviolet detection was used to determinate 9 conjugated bile acids in 61 women and fetuses with stratified degrees of ICP and normal pregnancies. The subjects were divided into modeling(n=40)and validating(n =21) sets. Metabolic profile analysis and validation were performed by partial least squares-discriminant analysis. Results:In the maternal model
the profile of normal pregnancies and stratified degrees of ICP were separated. In the cord model
the profile of non-severe group and severe ICP group were separated. The validated efficiencies of two stratified models were of 90.5% and 100.0%
respectively. The elevation of tauroursodeoxycholic acid(P=0.004)
taurocholic acid(P=0.005)
and glycocholic acid(P =0.032) was greater in ICP mothers
while the elevation of glycolithocholic acid(P <0.001) and taurodeoxycholic acid(P=0.001)was greater in ICP fetuses. Conclusion:Different bile acid profiles exist in mothers and fetuses with ICP available for stratifying degrees of ICP.
