Objective:To explore the effects of excessive expression of Caspase-3 on the apoptosis of olfactory receptor neurons(ORNs).Methods:According to the matching design
70 adult SD rats were divided into two groups:control group and nasosinusitis group. The rats were sacrificed on 2 d
5 d
8 d
14 d and 21 d after inoculating bacterium. The tissues were analyzed for the expression of Caspase-3 by immunohistochemical method and the apoptosis by terminal-deoxynucleotidyl transferase mediated nick end labeling(TUNEL). Results:Caspase-3 immunoreactivity in nasosinusitis group began to increase on 2 d
increased clearly on 5 d(P<0.05)
peaked on 8 d(P<0.01)and began to decline on 14 d
closed to the normal on 21 d. On 2 d and 21 d in nasosinusitis group
a little TUNEL positive cell appeared in the olfactory mucosa
peaked on 8 d(P<0.05)and began to decline on 14 d. Conclusion:The expression of Caspase-3 may be a factor inducing the apoptosis of the ORNs.
