Objective:To investigate the serum levels of cytokeratinfragment antigen 21.1(Cyfra 21.1)
galectin-3(Gal-3)
vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)in patients with differentiated thyroid carcinoma after surgery and to explore their clinical significances.Methods:Serum samples were collected from 75 patients with differentiated thyroid carcinoma after surgery(35 with regional recurrence
40 without recurrence)and 30 benign disease subjects(10 thyroid adenoma
20 nodular goiter). Cyfra 21.1
Gal-3
VEGF levels were detected using CLIA and ELISA. Results:Low Cyfra 21.1 and Gal-3 values were found in all subgroups
without significant differences(F=1.425
P=0.245;F=1.503
P=0.227). VEGF was significantly higher in patients with regional recurrence than in patients without recurrence and normal subjects(P=0.000). Conclusion:The serum levels of Cyfra 21.1 and Gal-3 could not be used as reliable markers for prognostic in patients after thyroidectomy. Serum VEGF is significantly elevated in differentiated thyroid carcinoma patients with postoperative recurrence
making it an important indicator to reveal the biological behaviors of differentiated thyroid carcinoma.
