Objective:To analyze the efficacy of combination of western medicine plus Xueshuantong injection in the treatment of pulmonary contusion caused by Wenchuan earthquake. Methods:Totally 35 pulmonary contusion patients were enrolled and simple treatment of western medicine(n=17) and western medicine plus Xueshuantong injection(n=18) were conducted

respectively. Oxygen saturation in arterial blood and the change of thoracic X- Ray were measured at baseline

one week and two weeks. The use of mechanical ventilation and durations of mechanical ventilation and hospital stay were also recorded. Results:Compared with simple treatment of western medicine group

the western medicine plus Xueshuantong injection group was superior in the change of thoracic X-Ray(P =0.034

P =0.15)

durations of mechanical ventilation(P =0.020

P =0.046) and hospital stay(P =0.021

P =0.037

P =0.028).Conclusion:Western medicine plus Xueshuantong injection shortens the durations of hospital stay

reduces the use of mechanical ventilation

and is conducive to the recovery of pulmonary contusion.
