Objective:To observe the changes of cerebrospinal-fluid albumin index and blood-brain barrier in patients with central nervous system infection. Methods:The levels of albumin in serum and CSF were determined by using immunoturbidimeter method in 18 patients with tuberculous meningitis(TBM) in acute phase and recovery phase
23 patients with viral encephalitis(VE) in acute phase
and 18 normal people. Results:In acute phase
the levels of CSF albumin and CSF albumin index in patients with TBM and VE were obviously higher than those of control group(P<0.001)
and the levels of CSF albumin and CSF albumin index in patients with TBM were obviously higher than those of VE group(P<0.001). In the group of TBM
CSF albumin and CSF albumin index during the recovery stage was lower than acute stage (P<0.001). Conclusion:The levels of CSF albumin and CSF albumin index potentially have an important value in early diagnosis
differential diagnosis and judgement of BBB impairment in TBM and VE.
