Objective To investigate the clinical effect of orthodontic in combination with prosthetic therapy for dentition defect combined with dentognathic deformity.Methods Eighty-six patients with dentition defect combined with dentognathic deformity admitted to the Department of Stomatology of a hospital in Henan Province from January 2019 to January 2020 were selected as study subjects and were assigned to a control group and a study group using the random number table method

with 43 cases in each group.The patients in the control group received prosthetic therapy alone

while the patients in the study group received orthodontic in combination with prosthetic therapy.After the treatment

the aesthetic results and the occurrence of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups.The dental function and oral hygiene of the patients in the two groups were compared before and after treatment.Results The rates of teeth alignment

good occlusion condition of posterior teeth

and good anterior tooth coverage and maxillary overbite were all higher in the study group than those in the control group

and the differences were statistically significant（P<0.05）.Before treatment

there was no statistically significant difference in mastication

swallowing and oral expression scores of patients between the 2 groups（P>0.05）.After treatment

the mastication

swallowing

and oral expression scores of patients between the 2 groups were higher than those before treatment

and the study group had higher scores than the control group

and the differences were statistically significant（P<0.05）.Before treatment

there was no statistically significant difference in the plaque adhesion index and debris index of patients between the 2 groups（P>0.05）.After treatment

the plaque adhesion index and debris index of the two groups were lower than those before treatment

with the study group lower than the control group

and the difference was statistically significant（P<0.05）.The incidence of adverse reactions in the study group was lower than that in the control group

and the difference was statistically significant（P<0.05）.Conclusion Orthodontic in combination with prosthetic therapy for treating dentition defects combined with dentognathic deformities has achieved better results

which can enhance the aesthetics of patients’ teeth

improve dental function and patients’ oral hygiene

and has high safety

and is worthy of clinical promotion and application.
