Objective To investigate the prevalence of high-normal blood pressure in medical junior college students
and also analyze its risk factors. Methods Based on the method of multi-stage sampling
500 students from Quanzhou Medical College(from grade 1 to grade 3)participated in this study. The sociodemographic characteristics were collected using a self-designed"Health Information Chart"
and health check-up was performed for all of these participants. And then
data were statistically analyzed. Results The detection rate of high-normol blood pressure was 62.8%.The prevalence of high-normal blood pressure varied significantly with gender
body mass index(BMI)
abdominal obesity
cardio-ankle vascular index(CAVI)
smoking and alcohol consumption status(P <0.05).Male gender
higher BMI
presence of abdominal obesity
borderline CAVI values
smoking
and alcohol consumption were associated with a higher prevalence of high-normal blood pressure.According to Logistic regression analysis
male
BMI≥30.0 kg/m2
abdominal obesity
smoking
and alcohol consumption were risk factors for high-normal blood pressure(P<0.05).Conclusion The prevalence of high-normal blood pressure is mainly influenced by gender
BMI
abdominal obesity
smoking
and alcohol consumption. It is important to take specific measures to manage the risk of high blood pressure in this population
so as to promote healthy development of medical junior college students.
