Objective To investigate the characteristics of empathy for pain and their influencing factors among patients with migraine without aura(MoA).Methods Sixty patient with MoA treated at a hospital in Hubei Province between January 2015 and December 2016 were included as the observation group
and 58 individuals who received health check-up at the same hospital during the same period were included as the control group.A questionnaire
Neuropsychological Test
and Empathy for Pain Test were used to obtain their basic information;besides
Mini-mental State Examination(MMSE)
Hamilton Anxiety Scale(HAMA)
Hamilton Depression Scale(HAMD)
Verbal Fluency Test(VFT)
Stroop Color-Word Test(ST)
and a pain rating scale were also utilized. Results The HAMA and HAMD scores in the observation group were significantly higher than those in the control group(P<0.05).The MMSE
VFT and ST scores were comparable between the two groups(P>0.05).The logistic regression analysis showed that
physical activity
body mass index(BMI)>24 kg/m2
favorable sleep quality
and frequent emotional experience could influence the empathy for pain among patient with MoA(P<0.05).Of these
BMI>24 kg/m2 and frequent emotional experience were risk factors
while physical activity and favorable sleep quality were protective factors. The pain judgment task(TP)differentiation index and pain response score to pain pictures in the observation group were significantly lower than those of the control group(P<0.05);but The left-right judgment task(TL)differentiation index and pain response score to neutral pictures were similar between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusion The characteristics of empathy for pain among patients with MoA include impaired emotional empathy and cognitive empathy.BMI>24 kg/m2 and frequent emotional experience seem to be risk factors
while physical activity and favorable sleep quality are protective factors.
