Objective To analyze the epidemiological characteristics and epidemic patterns of notifiable infectious diseases in Beibei District of Chongqing during 2004-2015
which may provide scientific evidence for formulating local strategies on infectious disease control and prevention. Methods Descriptive epidemiological analysis was carried out using the reported data about notifiable infectious diseases in Beibei District of Chongqing during 2004-2015.Results A total of 24 kinds of notifiable infectious diseases were reported during this period. The reported incidences of class A and class B communicable diseases tended to decline
while the incidence of class C communicable diseases(excluding hand-foot-mouth disease)showed an increasing tendency;the incidence of hand-foot-mouth disease fluctuated at a relatively high level.Among class A and class B communicable diseases
the average annual incidence rate of blood borne/sexually transmitted infectious diseases was the highest(168.50/100 000)
followed by respiratory infectious diseases(102.12/100 000)
intestinal infectious diseases(52.31/100 000)
natural foci and insect borne diseases(0.28/100 000)
and neonatal tetanus(0.01/100 000).Compared with the 2004 data
the incidence rates of intestinal infectious diseases
respiratory infectious diseases
and blood borne/sexually transmitted infectious diseases declined by 53.24%
45.90%
and12.10%
respectively in 2015.Hepatitis B and pulmonary tuberculosis continued to have the highest incidence rates throughout these years
and the reported incidence rate of syphilis showed an obvious increase. In addition
HIV/AIDS had the highest mortality rate throughout these years. Conclusion Pulmonary tuberculosis
hepatitis B
HIV/AIDS
syphilis
and hand-foot-mouth disease should be considered as the priorities of infectious disease control and prevention efforts in Beibei District of Chongqing.
