Objective To analyze the reasons of drug return in primary hospitals.The study aimed to ensure the rational use of medicine.Method The research was conducted by analyzing 282 cases of drug return applications and data in computers in Chongqing University of Post and Telecommunications from 2011 to 2013.Results Top 3returned drugs were antibiotic

traditional Chinese medicine injection

and infusion of solvent and electrolyte

which occupied amount rate of 31.81%

30.29% and 22.00% respectively.There had large numbers of returned drugs and huge amounts of money.The returning ascribed to patients’transfer and leave

state change of illness

adverse drug reaction

drug shortage and so on.Conclusion Measures should be taken to reinforce rational use of drugs and standard management of medicine in order to decline the number and amount of drug return in primary hospitals.
