Objective To investigate the clinical significance of serum uric acid detection in elderly hypertensive patients.Method 80 cases of elderly patients with high blood pressure received in our hospital from May 2009 to October 2010 were selected as the observation group and 80 cases of healthy elderly people were in the control group.People in both groups took serum uric acid test with the experimental method for determination of uric acid enzyme. Results The levels of serum uric acid in the observation group were significantly higher than the control group and there were statistically significant differences(P<0.05)between the two groups.Among the observation group
the levels of serum uric acid for patients with complications were significantly higher than those without complications and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion The detection of serum uric acid can be used as the evidence for the diagnosis of hypertension and its complications in elderly patients.
