Objective To probe into the intervention effects of cognitive behavioral therapy on anxiety of university student undergoing tooth extraction and to provide the basis for effectively coping with clinical dental anxiety.Method 230university students visiting the outpatient service of stomatology for tooth extraction were selected and an investigation and assessment was conducted on the patients with the Modified Dental Anxiety Scale.100cases of patients with dental anxiety were screened and randomly divided into routine treatment group(control group)and cognitive behavioral treatment group(intervention group)with 50cases in each group.Anxiety degree before and after tooth extraction of the two groups was assessed with the Modified Dental Anxiety Scale and degree of pain in patients from the two groups was evaluated
and the data was statistically analyzed. Results Incidence rate of anxiety in university students undergoing tooth extraction was 51.74%
which in male and female students was 48.03%and 56.25%respectively
and the differences were statistically significant(p<0.05).Through cognitive behavioral intervention
differences in average score of MADS and degree of pain of patients before and after tooth extraction surgery were statistically significant(p<0.01);in the control group
differences in average score of MADS and degree of pain before and after surgery had no statistical significance(p>0.05).Conclusion Incidence rate of anxiety in university students undergoing tooth extraction is relatively high
which in female students is significantly higher than male students
and the situation should be highly valued.Cognitive behavioral intervention can effectively reduce anxiety in tooth extraction and ease the pain
